The U.S. Constitution in Light of Eternity

The Preamble

So What Happened?

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

“...insure domestic tranquility...”

The issue of domestic tranquility has continued down through our countries’ history. Many a politician has discussed this idea and how to achieve it.

“Domestic Tranquility” involves the secure feeling of citizens about their homeland. It is being free of agitation, aggression and short term solutions.

William Henry Harrison in his inaugural address discussed the importance of the federal government in limiting and preserving states rights. He said: “The attempt of those of one state to control the domestic institution of another can only result in feelings of distrust and jealous, the certain harbingers of disunion, violence, and civil war, and the ultimate destruction of our free institution.”

True peace comes only from God. He is the one who can thrust away an enemy.

Deuteronomy 33:27, “The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out he enemy form before the; and shall say, Destroy them.”

Righteousness and peace go hand in hand. You cannot have one without the other. 

Psalm 85:10, “Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.”

When the Lord sets up His kingdom, domestic tranquility will finally be insured. Until then, honoring God and keeping His commandments as a people is the best way to gain it.

Micah 4:4 “But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the Lord of hosts hath spoken it.”

Domestic tranquility is very important for citizens to be free to pursue happiness, and gain prosperity of living. Without it, an economy is forced to exist. People are demoralized and afraid to do anything and if they do, they take high risks. People’s health fails earlier. Their mental well being and capabilities are greatly diminished. The list of problems goes on and on….
