The U.S. Constitution in Light of Eternity

The Preamble

So What Happened?

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

"...Establish..."

The people of the United States realized they must unite in order to accomplish several things. This became the Federal Government. The second goal of this federal government was to establish justice. This was done by establishing a justice branch.

The Scriptural teaching about establishing things is directly related to God and His work. Nothing can be established without His blessing and will.

Luke 22:33, "And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death."

To establish something is to make it permanent. The Lord Jesus prayed for Peter that he would "strengthen" the brethren. This meant the Lord wished Peter would establish the Christians in their faith.

2 Samuel 7:13, "He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever."

God promised to establish the throne of Solomon forever. He was not going not take it away as He did form Saul.

God's system of Government uses the people to enforce the law. Often when a person was found guilty by the judge of a capital crime, the whole city would come together and immediately stone the criminal with stones to death.

Leviticus 20:2, "Again, thou shalt say to the children of Israel, Whosoever he be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that giveth any of his seed unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones."

Leviticus 24:23, "And Moses spake to the children of Israel, that they should bring forth him that had cursed out of the camp, and stone him with stones. And the children of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses."

Numbers 15:35, "And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp."

Deuteronomy 13:10, "And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage."

Deuteronomy 21:21, "And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear."

It is proper and important for the people to establish justice in their land.
