The Preamble
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
"...in order to form a more perfect union..."
The Constitution gives the reasons for forming the United States. The reasons are very good reasons.
First, it is recognized that limits must be imposed on the States in order that they remain unified.
Exodus 23:32, "Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor with their gods."
The Israelite tribes were not to make any covenants or agreements with the inhabitants of the land or their gods. They were not to live with the natives, not let any influences from them into their society.
A more perfect union would bring together the states to see that unholy alliances would never be made.
Exodus 34:12, "Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee:"
There is to be a total demolition of any heathen worship sites or images.
Deuteronomy 7:2, "And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:"
No mercy is to be shown the heathen peoples of the land. They are to be destroyed.
Joshua 9 offers an example of the degree of deception a heathen state will go to in order to arrive at a peace treaty. It also demonstrates how easily good solid people can be fooled. A United government should protect the individual states from such deception.
II Chronicles 16 tells the story of how money can be used to form alliances and break unions. Being in a perfect union would prohibit such activities.
