The U.S. Constitution in Light of Eternity

by Rev. Clinton Macomber

Article 2, Section 2, Paragraph 3

What Happened?

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.

What Happened?

The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.

So What Happened?

Our country is in the throes of forming amnesty treaties with neighboring countries. This is a dangerous proposal because it invites their shameful heathen ideals and practices into this country. This country was founded on the Scriptures, and allowing other forms of religion to propagate is going to harm the United States.

Exodus 23:31-33, "And I will set thy bounds from the Red sea even unto the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert unto the river: for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand; and thou shalt drive them out before thee. Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee."

The power of the president to make treaties gives him authority that can be very dangerous. It is one that the American people must pay attention to in order to make sure their country is preserved. However, there is a large disconnect of Senators and the President from the American people. They live as lords and ladies in a very artificial environment.

Constitutionally, they must respond to the American people. It is our duty to this country to get past their walls of isolation by writing letters and gaining interviews to ensure the Constitution has a voice. Demonstrations and rabble rousing is not the way to go about this important task.

As with any immature person, there is a constant and unremitting pushing of the limits and the ignoring of the rules that govern our nation. Our presidents are being allowed to misuse this clause to appoint replacements in government positions that Congress does not approve. The appointments are clearly designed to go around the Constitutional limits, and yet they are permitted.

What we need is to have truly qualified people to serve in Government. The lack of such people is a key indicator that our government is too bloated. A severe reduction of government positions would enable qualified people to be free to be placed in important positions, while at the same time eliminating the huge waste and duplication of services so common in government.
