Article 2, Section 2, Paragraph 1
The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.
So What Happened?
The President was to be Commander and Chief of the militias, should they be called into action. The militias were citizen groups, led and commanded by citizens. This force was also voluntary. If a militia did not choose to consent to the leadership of the President, they could not be forced to do so.
The President was not to have an army that he could use as a dictator might. The only military personnel would be volunteer citizens, lead by volunteer citizens. This would protect the citizens from being used to harass, threaten or in any way abuse the power of the United States.
The President also was limited in the time he could command forces by his term of office. As such, he would not be able to build up much of an abuse of power, before his term ended. The President was also to fear being replaced through impeachment or a vote of citizens to remove him.
It can be easily seen that the Constitution has been discarded for the very thing that it seeks to prohibit. Our country has a huge standing army, stationed all over the world. Our presidents have been declaring war without following the procedures outlined in the Constitution that they are sworn to follow and uphold. Troops are trained and equipped with the latest of military technology, of which a huge portion of tax dollars go to develop. Troops are also called to control “riots” and other “dangerous” citizens. Those serving in the armed forces are forced to obey their commanders or face severe disciplinary action. We are also facing a real threat of having the draft reemployed upon American citizens. Not only are they compelled to fight, but they are forced to fight in wars that are un-constitutional and quite unnecessary.
As far as the Cabinet of the President, this is largely made up of people who are heads of illegal departments. The Constitution does not make allowances for many of these people who are there to advise the president. Currently there are 20 members that make up this group. Departments that should not be present are: Education, Transportation, Health & Human Services, Homeland Security, Veteran Affairs, Agriculture, Interior, Labor, Environmental Protection, Drug Control, etc.
