Article 2, Section 1, Paragraph 2
Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.
Electors are not Government Officers
In order that the president not be tied directly to any one government interest, electors are to provide the buffer. They are not to be government employees, but ordinary citizens chosen to represent the State’s best interests and what is right.
Unfortunately, our country has experienced the power of influence peddling in elections. Elections have been bought, officials have been nothing more than puppets of certain subversive organizations, media outlets have been controlled by their owners as propaganda avenues, and citizens have been too afraid to step forward and take action.
All of this protection provided for by the Constitution is to slow the advance of evil in the government. It has worked very well. There are multiple balances to control and limit powers.
The electoral college was formed as a means to help isolate the president from being a product of conspiracy groups and special interests. It was hoped that by choosing electors from citizenry, the electors would not be so easily influenced to vote a certain way.
God had special protections to ensure that there would not be evil candidates for office, nor would there be corruption for long in office.
Deuteronomy 17:2-13 lays out clear instruction that if anyone inside the gates of the city is found to have committed idolatry, and demonstrated evil loyalty, they were to be executed by stoning. Deuteronomy 16:18-20 gives the requirements of a judge. Electors would serve as judges over the candidates for office. They were not to be influenced by anything other than the facts and doing the right thing. Any deviations would be instant disqualification.
Isaiah 11:3-4, "And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked."
