The U.S. Constitution in Light of Eternity

by Rev. Clinton Macomber

Article 2, Section 1, Paragraph 1

What Happened?

The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years, and, together with the Vice President, chosen for the same Term, be elected, as follows:

So What Happened?

The President has not been held to the definition of the Constitution by the Electorate, the Judicial and Legislative branches. The checks and balances have been ignored due to convenience, lack of education regarding the role of the President, lack of will power, and a desire for a "king" in power and glory.

When there is a full time legislative branch of government that simply cranks out new laws that are bloated, confusing, ridiculous, excessive, compulsive, and overbearing; endless government agencies are created to enforce and monitor the laws. These agencies have almost limitless powers that destroy and corrupt the citizenry. The President has no ability to properly monitor or control the excessive and bloated agencies. The result is a government that is out of control and out of touch with reality.

The Presidents and Americans have ignored the Constitutional definition of the office. They have allowed the office to include many aspects that do not fit under the definition. The President is not a "world leader." He is not the "Commander and Chief" of a permanent military. He is not to be the head of social programs, educational institutions, transportation departments, recreational departments, regulatory agencies, police agencies, disaster agencies, or bureaucracies of all types. He was simply to preside over the few laws that needed to be enforced that were delivered to him to enforce.

Government was primarily to be run by the local governments that were close to the people. The President’s office was to be kept limited so that it would never become bloated or gain power.

There is a lack of presidential material today. Americans are not being raised to earn respect and honor and prepare for governmental service. Depravity and self-centeredness has so permeated society that there is a lack of righteous leadership. The country is broken up into many groups, all seeking someone who will promote their own interests, totally ignoring what is right and good for the country and their fellow citizens, let alone for themselves.

Citizens are not guarding the office of the president in the Biblical sense. If they were, they would see that young people were properly trained to obey the law of the land. Young people would be taught the art of being a servant-leader. Above all, such young people would be trained in following the leading of the Lord and His Word in all things.

The office of the president has become so distorted and shifted away from the definition; it has become a power struggle for the chance to sit on a world-wide bully platform. Things have gotten so vile, people run for the office of president just so they can have the power to wreak vengeance on other groups.

While there are rare references from the president and vice president regarding the Constitution, it should serve as a starting point in their day after time alone with God. Obviously, they cannot remember the definition of their office or power today.

Will there be presidents and vice presidents in heaven? God’s saints will be kings and priests who will rule with righteousness. Moses proved a whole nation could be judged effectively as long as there are not family concerns. I do not expect to see “big government” from heaven, nor on this earth.
