Article 2, Section 1, Paragraph 1
The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years, and, together with the Vice President, chosen for the same Term, be elected, as follows:
Term of Service
The vice-president is chosen to serve the same term as the president. They are to be elected officials. Although the process is different from the election of representatives and senators, there is still an election process.
The Constitution leaves open the method of how the vice president is chosen. At first, it was the second person with the most votes. Lately it is a person the president chooses to run with him and enter on the ballot.
Historically there has been discussion as to the meaning of term. A term is simply a defined length of time. The Greek word for this is found in the Bible.
Galatians 4:1-2, "Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father."
The word is and means before to place. It is a pre-appointed day the father sets up for the graduation of the child. There is a great comfort in knowing the planned day of change. Having a term to serve puts the task into perspective, so that time is not wasted, nor do the frustrations overwhelm. The passage goes on and explains the passing of this time.
Galatians 4:4, "But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,"
Just as a father sets out guidelines for events in the family, God uses indicators as to when to initiate events.
