Article 2, Section 1, Paragraph 1
The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years, and, together with the Vice President, chosen for the same Term, be elected, as follows:
Holding Office for a Term
The use of the term office is combined with an activity and Biblically means to "act as priest" or to "act as a midwife."
Exodus 28:1, "And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons."
Exodus 1:16, "And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live."
It carries the idea of being in a particular place.
Genesis 40:13, "Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler."
It includes the concept of real labor and can be translated work.
1 Chronicles 6:32, "And they ministered before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of the congregation with singing, until Solomon had built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem: and then they waited on their office according to their order."
When David complained of the wicked and deceitful ruling man, he asked for several things to punish the ingrained wickedness. One of the requests was removal from office prematurely through death.
This was the balance that was sought for in the office of president. It was hoped that the term was short enough if a bad person became president, but long enough a good person could effectively handle the position.
Psalm 109:8, "Let his days be few; and let another take his office."
The term of four years enables a person to get to a year of creation. The first three years are involved in administration duties, and the fourth enables there to be an expansion and implementation of particular goals and focus of the office.
