The U.S. Constitution in Light of Eternity

by Rev. Clinton Macomber

Article 2, Section 1, Paragraph 1

What Happened?

The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years, and, together with the Vice President, chosen for the same Term, be elected, as follows:

Executive Power

An Executive is one who carries out the plans and wishes of another person or group of people. This term limits and defines the office of the President.

Executive power is simply the managing of the laws of the land and seeing that they are enforced.

Executive power sees that those who break the law are brought to the appropriate judicial system to be evaluated and judged. After the judgment, they are to make sure the sentence is carried out.

As the chief executive, the President would see that law enforcement was conducted according to the Constitution and in a manner that was appropriate.

Biblically, such an office is unnecessary. Witnesses bring an accused person to the judges, and the victim’s family sees that a just sentence immediately is declared. The family would also make sure the sentence was carried out, by doing it themselves, or with the help of the town, depending on the severity of the crime. Again, the citizens of the city would make sure that things were handled properly, or charges would be brought against the victim’s family member.

God remains the chief executive, by promising that justice vacated by the people will be carried out by Himself. He offers to step in and help the priests determine the truth in situations where the truth remains secret.

Our U.S. Constitution envisioned the need for someone to head up temporary military needs, police activities, and border protections. Rather than enforcing the laws made, legislators needed a single person to oversee the organizations that would expedite and enforce obedience.
