Article 1, Section 10, Paragraph 3
No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay.
So What Happened?
The Government is quick to get approval for more taxes on vehicles and fuel in order to help fund roads and their upkeep, but the money is not allocated to this purpose. Instead it goes to public education and indoctrination and many ungodly social programs. Most of the transportation taxes were approved with the understanding that the funds raised would fund transportation costs.
With the lack of vigilance against foreign invasions by known enemies of this country (i.e. Islam jihad), the government is expanding its stolen powers almost unrestrained. The United States has entered into war on a world-wide scale, ignoring the fact we are at war with scores of peoples around the world.
The whole terrorist situation would have been avoided if security were handled locally. Having to leave matters of security up to the federal government has left us sleeping on a local level. It has also meant that information about known criminals have not been passed to local community watchmen, where the information can do some real good. God’s method of community policing is far superior to a federal plan.
It is a sad commentary when taxation crowds out and around each tax prohibition clause. Instead of avoiding taxation, and instead of the Representatives ensuring no taxes are added, the United States has amassed so many taxes that one wonders where the justice watchdogs have gone.
While there may not be a state "tonnage" tax, there are many fees and fines that come close! In fact one has to "split hairs" to argue they are not tonnage duties. There is no avoidance of the "appearance" of violation of taxation laws any more than there is a determination to do what is knowingly right about taxation. Where are our Representatives.
