The U.S. Constitution in Light of Eternity

by Rev. Clinton Macomber

Article 1, Section 8, Paragraphs 16

What Happened?

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

So What Happened?

Our Country has gone against the Constitution by adopting full-time military branches. To justify the huge expense of these military groups, the President has to keep them busy. This makes it too easy to involve American citizens in conflicts, skirmishes and wars. It creates a huge hatred for Americans in general, because sides are poorly chosen, and it is not rare to find our Government supporting both sides.

Because our Country has consistently engaged in warfare on foreign soil and without the support of the American people or the Congress, our American service men and woman are caught as pawns in a political struggle, with no opportunity for victory or a clear objective to win.

In a desire to try to lure Americans to join our Military so these endless political embarrassments can continue, there is a lack of discipline and clear enforced morals among the troops. This has resulted in demoralization and utter shame being felt by the troops. Our troops are known for their rowdy behavior, drunkenness, promiscuity, distain for authority, illegal drug use, cowardice, and general slovenly appearance.

A return to local militias would change all of these inbred problems. The Federal Government could hire different Militias based on their particular abilities. Free Enterprise could enter the Military once again. Instead of the Government spending billions to create weapons, the more efficient American system would do it. Worth would return to the rank and file Minutemen.

In 1795, Congress delegated to the President their powers of calling up Militias. This is unfortunate because it takes the power away from the people and gives the President too much power and the opportunity to become a ruthless dictator.

In 1916, "Militia" was redefined to mean any able bodied man between 18 and 45 years of age. This group was also renamed the National Guard and the National Guard Reserve.

These changes became the undoing of the American Citizen. Now we have no voice in the politics of war. Our relatives and friends must go where sent, and respond when called. Things have gotten so bad that weapons are severely restricted from common ownership. Soldiers are taught "disengagement" to enable them to break down the aversion to killing. The work Soldiers do today does not have a clear moral reason or goal. Is it any wonder that our Country’s mass murderers all came through our Military? These include Timothy McVeigh, Howard Unruh, Charles Whitman, Arthur Shawcross, and now John Allen Muhammad (New American, Nov. 18, 2002, p 5).
