The U.S. Constitution in Light of Eternity

by Rev. Clinton Macomber

Article 1, Section 8, Paragraphs 11-13

To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;

To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;

What Happened?

To provide and maintain a Navy;

A Navy

A navy can be a huge threat.

The Constitution provides for a Navy so that borders can be patrolled and the shipping industry can be protected.

The oceans provide a wonderful barrier to warfare and immigration. They also provide a dangerous element for surprise attacks. Because the shorelines are so long, there is also a big chance that terrorists can arrive and attacks can come from the waters.

Because of this threat, it is necessary to have soldiers that patrol these waters and monitor who is using them. These patrols can watch for illegal immigration, submarines, pirate ships, and other illegal activities. By stopping these threats on the sea, our country and shipping industry can go about their business safely.

This Navy was to serve as the Coast Guard. With a military presence on the waters, it was believed there would not be a threat of the military being used against American citizens.

It must be noted that Scriptures indicate that it may be our Navy that is a threat in the future to the Antichrist. Russia’s Navy will be a later threat.

Daniel 11:30, "For the ships of Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be grieved, and return, and have indignation against the holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even return, and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant."

Daniel 11:40, "And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over."

Several countries had a Navy in Scripture. They were a huge boon to the kingdom.

1 Kings 9:26-28, "And king Solomon made a navy of ships in Eziongeber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red sea, in the land of Edom. And Hiram sent in the navy his servants, shipmen that had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon. And they came to Ophir, and fetched from thence gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon."
