Congress Borrow Money!?!
Congress has the authority to borrow money using the credit of the United States Government. There are times when the Government needs to borrow money in order to meet obligations. However, this is something that should always be done very cautiously.
In the Scriptures, the only reason to borrow was because of poverty. It was not used to start a business or for commercial reasons. Loans were actually a form of charity and made by the lender only to help someone under the pressures of poverty.
It was forbidden to charge the poor interest on a loan.
Deuteronomy 23:19, "Thou shalt not lend upon usury to thy brother; usury of money, usury of victuals, usury of any thing that is lent upon usury:"
Foreigners or strangers could be charged interest.
Deuteronomy 23:20, "Unto a stranger thou mayest lend upon usury; but unto thy brother thou shalt not lend upon usury: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all that thou settest thine hand to in the land whither thou goest to possess it."
If these principles had been followed by our government, it would not be in the serious situation it is in today. These principles have been ignored by society, so our society is debt based. Citizens cannot imagine living in a stable economy where income is earned and the cost of goods is not inflated.
