Article 1, Section 6, Paragraph 1
The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States. They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.
So What Has Happened?
The Constitution foolishly allowed the "lawmakers" to set their own wages. It is a simple fact that an employee is not to set his own wages and decide what expenses will be paid. It assumes too much to think they will be honorable and humble in this area. Both houses think they are "kings" of our government and live lavish lifestyles, unbefitting a servant of poor, overtaxed people.
Compensation has to be guarded and frugally administered. It also must be carefully scrutinized to verify necessary expenditures.
Next, Legislators have exempted themselves generally from arrest and hold themselves as being above the very laws they make. They have distorted this law to mean they should not have to submit to it.
Christ had harsh words for such people.
Luke 11:46, "And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers."
Luke 11:52, "Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered."
Lastly, Legislators have exempted themselves from taking seriously any accusations against them, and having to "answer" for the charges.
Questioning is not a threat in God’s economy. It is done publicly, and in front of the witnesses against the person. Trying to isolate a person and force him into confessing a crime is wrong.
Our system caters to lawyers. In a legal system that is simple and straightforward, lawyers are not needed to represent each person, but simply to state Biblical law and examples fairly and accurately. Lawyers should be priests to God, to represent God to mankind.
