The U.S. Constitution in Light of Eternity

by Rev. Clinton Macomber

Article 1, Section 6, Paragraph 1

What Happened?

The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States. They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.

Compensation for Services

Employers must repay costs and time of an employee daily.

God makes it very clear that if we have someone do something, they need to be compensated or paid for the service and the expenses that come for doing the job.

Matthew 10:10, "Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat."

As with any pay, rules need to be set in order, so everyone is clear about what they will get and when they will get it.

Scripture indicates that pay should be settled each day. Holding on to someone's pay brings a great deal of sorrow to the one hoping and needing to get paid. It also makes it harder to settle accounts and keep tract of expenditures.

Leviticus 19:13, "Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning."

This also makes sure the employer does not take advantage of the workers by not having the money to pay for help, and so pretending he will pay later.
