The U.S. Constitution in Light of Eternity

by Rev. Clinton Macomber

Article 1, Section 3, Paragraph 7

What Happened?

Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.

So what happened?

Our Representatives and Senators have not been encouraged to be vigilant in policing each other and the offices of government. As a result, inefficiency, immorality, thievery, and complacency are rampant in government.

Officials that have “insufficient evidence” for conviction in Court, but who are generally considered guilty of crimes, are not removed. This causes people to consider public office as vulgar, and leaves considerable support for bribery and dishonesty.

Liable

To re-establish the public trust in government, there needs to be a house cleaning that starts from the top and works its way down to the lowest clerks and cleaning personnel.

Officials need to fear tainting their reputations by the slightest appearance of evil on any level.

Crime needs to be punished as specified in Scripture. Government would shrink to a fraction of what it is, and be appreciated and supported by all.
