The U.S. Constitution in Light of Eternity

by Rev. Clinton Macomber

Article 1, Section 3, Paragraph 3

What Happened?

No Person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty Years, and been nine Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen.

30 Years of Age

The Senate cannot risk having immature members.

The Senate was to be a group of wise elders, well respected and of good representation. 30 years was the youngest they would go.

Christ’s ministry began when he was about 30 years of age. Before that age He would have not been taken seriously.

Luke 3:23, "And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,"

The Levites did not begin service until 30.

Numbers 4:47, "From thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old, every one that came to do the service of the ministry, and the service of the burden in the tabernacle of the congregation,"

1 Chronicles 23:3, "Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand."

Joseph stood before Pharaoh at 30.

Genesis 41:46, "And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt."

David did not begin his reign until this age

2 Samuel 5:4, "David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years."
