The U.S. Constitution in Light of Eternity

by Rev. Clinton Macomber

Article 1, Section 2, Paragraph 2

What Happened?

No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the Age of twenty five Years, and been seven Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shall be chosen.

Seven Years a Citizen of the United States

Our history has proven that it takes several years to learn the American system of Government.

Seven years comes from the period of time given to do business and before debts would be cancelled in Israel.

Leviticus 25:3, "Six years thou shalt sow thy field, and six years thou shalt prune thy vineyard, and gather in the fruit thereof;"

This time is also needed for the candidate to establish a record and reputation. Moses instructed Israel to only choose known people.

Deuteronomy 1:13, "Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you."

This keeps out foreign professional politicians.
