The U.S. Constitution in Light of Eternity

by Rev. Clinton Macomber

Article 1, Section 1

What Happened?

All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.

House of Representatives

Mordecai was defined as a classic Representative:

Esther 10:3, "For Mordecai the Jew was next unto king Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed."

A representative is to represent the wishes of the people as long as these wishes are good and proper. Mordecai could make laws. His people commonly accepted him. He sought to see that his people were wealthy and at peace.

U.S. House

A good representative will work hard for the people he represents. He is there to see that laws are passed that will benefit those he represents. He will work to stop any laws that would bring harm to his area, or that are wrong. Such a person would be very much appreciated by citizens.

They used the word “House” when referring to this group of people. A house refers to a family.

Acts 16:31, "And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."

The intentions were that these people would find themselves all part of the same group from across this great land, and work together to accomplish the laws that were needed in this country. There was to be a family atmosphere.
